Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) – Free Meals for All Students
All Rainier School District students attending a brick-and-mortar school building are eligible to receive one free complete breakfast and one free complete lunch each school day. Second meals are charged to a student's account.
Why School Lunch?
Healthy meals help students fuel their bodies, focus on learning, and stay ready for the school day. School lunch provides balanced nutrition while introducing students to a variety of foods and encouraging healthy eating habits.
At Rainier School District, our Nutrition Services team prepares meals with care and offers Oregon-grown and processed foods through our Farm to School program.
Five Food Groups Offered Every Day
Every school lunch offers foods from five groups:
-
Milk: Milk options that provide calcium, vitamin D, and protein.
-
Vegetables: A colorful variety, including fresh vegetables, salads, and cooked favorites.
-
Fruit: Fresh, frozen, or canned fruit, including locally grown options when available.
-
Grains: Whole grain-rich breads, pasta, rice, and other grain foods. At least 80% of the grains offered each week must be whole grain-rich, with any remaining grains enriched.
-
Protein: Foods such as chicken, beef, fish, beans, tofu, cheese, and other meat alternatives.
More Than Just Lunch
A healthy start matters! School breakfast helps students begin the day nourished and ready to learn. Access to dependable meals also supports families and helps ensure students have the nutrition they need throughout the school day.
Rainier School District provides each student’s first breakfast and first lunch at no charge through the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP). Second meals and additional items are available for purchase.
School Nutrition Standards
School breakfast and lunch follow federal nutrition standards designed to meet students’ needs as they grow. These standards guide portion sizes, food variety, and the balance of nutrients offered.
Menus include fruits, vegetables, grains, protein foods, and milk, and must meet requirements for calories, saturated fat, sodium, and applicable added-sugar limits.
Our goal is simple: serve nutritious, appealing meals that help students feel welcome, nourished, and ready to succeed.
